The basis for Going With The Grain is simple: God fashioned the world by wisdom.
The Lord by his wisdom founded the earth;
by understanding he established the heavens;
by his knowledge the deeps broke open,
and the clouds drop down the dew.Proverbs 3:19-20
Wisdom is built into creation - the divine mark left by his craftsman hands. It is, in a phrase, the grain of the universe. Its curves and channels are the path to the good life. To push against these is the definition of foolishness.
But wisdom doesn’t always present itself clearly: it’s an ancient and obscure grain. Sometimes we bump into it. Sometimes we stumble over it. Sometimes it even bites back at us.
But to those who seek it, wisdom will be granted.
Yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.Proverbs 2:3-6
And the gain from wisdom is priceless!
Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord,
but he who fails to find me injures himself;
all who hate me love death.Proverbs 8:11-12; 35-36
Thus, my aim is also simple: to find the wisdom God and follow it. I want to be the kind of person who goes with the grain, not against it. I hope as I share what I find you’ll be encouraged to walk alongside me.
